Yes. A friend texted me last night asking if Octopus Energy Germany is legit, and that is the whole reason this page exists. Short version: it is a licensed household supplier, not a pop-up shop and not a bank. The German company is Octopus Energy Germany GmbH, sitting at August-Everding-Straße 25 in 81671 Munich, entered at Amtsgericht München under HRB 231408. It started life as 4hundred GmbH, registered in Starnberg on 16 February 2017. Skip it if any of the lines below sound like your week. A cheap locked rate you would forfeit six months early is not a puzzle Octopus can magic away. A move in three weeks with a new Marktlokation about to replace the old one is a move-in file, not a casual supplier swap. A dynamic-looking headline without a meter that can settle those intervals is a limp offer. Do you actually have a smart meter, or just a screenshot a colleague forwarded? Ask that before you fall for a working price that only exists on hardware you do not own.

• You are moving flats inside about a month and the meter and Marktlokation are about to change

The walk from postcode to SEPA

Buying, if you can call it that, is a switch file. You enter the postcode, pick a term, send name, address, yearly kilowatt-hours, meter data, and a SEPA mandate. Compare the local utility, one other national discounter, and Octopus on the same consumption and on a first-year-versus-second-year basis. Include the standing charge. A portal tile that only looks cheap because it already folded in a bonus you have not earned yet is the usual trap.

The loyalty bonus, according to the German FAQ, is credited after a year of supply, netted on the first annual statement, and lost if you leave earlier. That design is common among German retailers. Price the second year without it. Withdrawal within fourteen days is separate: it undoes the contract, it does not pay you a bonus. Instalments are estimates. The annual statement trues them up. If you added a heat pump or a car, raise the Abschlag yourself rather than waiting for a painful catch-up bill. Deposit demands are uncommon for clean SEPA households but appear in some German contracts after payment trouble. None of this is investment guidance. Kraken is the back-office system the group licensed widely in other countries. In Germany it shows up as an app-and-web account where you should be able to send meter readings, see instalments, and download bills. Cancellations and withdrawals, according to the German FAQ, go through that account or through email, not through a phone agent taking a verbal termination. The fourteen-day Widerruf runs from contract confirmation. If supply already started, you can owe payment for energy used. That is ordinary German distance-selling law, not a gotcha unique to this brand. Keep the PDFs. A confirmation email is not a souvenir. It is the start date, the term, and the bonus small print in one place.

A supplier can still adjust prices after a guarantee window. A supplier can exit the market; your grid operator then keeps the lights on. Octopus is not your electrician.
