Bricommerce Almost Sold Me a Driveway Roof I Couldn't Send Back

The first thing that almost went wrong was not the card. It was the postcode, and then the timber. I had a two-slope carport kit sitting in a French hardware cart — a CPBF Charpentes driveway roof in Douglas wood, the sort of order that arrives on a pallet and does not fit behind a front door — and I was one field away from treating it like a coat I could post back in fourteen days. I opened the terms instead of clicking pay. Personalized and made-to-measure goods are excluded from withdrawal in the published annex. That is the near-miss. A cut timber kit is not a small risk.

The click I didn't finish

I once sat in RN4 traffic east of Paris and watched a van hesitate at a depot gate that was never drawn for browsers holding paint chips. That image stuck. You are not drifting down an aisle at Leroy Merlin or Castorama. You are placing a remote order with a specialist who keeps stock in more than one depot and will, if you live close, let you collect at the counter.

Two things I will name. Then I stop.

I think the honest customer already walked the garden with a tape and got tired of a big-box aisle that was out of the one reel they wanted. Not a mood shopper. Not someone who wants a fitter to stay after the van leaves.

Who should close the tab

Skip the site if you need a same-hour fastener, paint mixed to a wall chip, or a plumber who pressure-tests a boiler after the van leaves. Skip it if your address is in a French overseas department or territory. The terms define the territory as metropolitan France excluding DOM/TOM and say you cannot order outside that territory. How you pay, and what waits

Checkout is an ordinary Oxatis sequence: account or login, address, carrier, then pay. Prices are in euros and include VAT. Shipping is extra and depends on weight, destination, and the carrier the cart offers. Cards go through BNP Paribas Mercanet for Cartes Bancaires, Visa, Mastercard, and e-Carte Bleue, with 3-D Secure. Split cards run via Monetico CIC and Crédit Mutuel. Corsica is metropolitan France in the usual legal sense, but marketplace copy for the same seller has, in the past, excluded Corsica. Confirm the island postcode on bricommerce.com rather than assuming TNT covers Ajaccio the way it covers Pontault-Combault. I am not inventing a Corsica rule the live cart has not shown me.

Carriers pictured and named are Colissimo, TNT (the page also writes TNT/FedEx), Mondial Relay pickup, and DB Schenker for heavier freight. A carport or a fat pump will not go through a letterbox. Expect a kerbside drop unless the product page says the crew will do more. Inspect the carton before you sign. Refuse a damaged parcel so it can return and be replaced. The terms give three days to notify the carrier of damage or partial loss. Signature and identity papers can be required. If you are out, TNT may leave the parcel with a partner shop; Colissimo leaves a notice. Photographs help more than a slogan.

You may test a product as needed to establish nature and function. You are liable for depreciation beyond that. A pruner that has already been through a hedge is not in the same state as a boxed tool. Annex 1 exclusions include clearly personalized or made-to-measure goods, goods mixed inseparably with others, and unsealed hygiene products. That is the trap on timber cut to your driveway. Separate from withdrawal, every consumer gets the legal conformity warranty, two years from delivery on new goods, with a shorter six-month presumption cited for used goods, and the hidden-defects warranty under the Civil Code. I would use Bricommerce when I already know the object, I live inside the metropolitan map the contract describes, and I can live with a 15:00 express cutoff, a fourteen-day unused return, and a depot counter instead of a supermarket aisle. I would not use it for overseas France, a same-day fitting, or a custom carport I might try to send back like a jumper. On 27 September 2026 the public pages still matched that narrow job. Check the live cart, then pay only for the piece you have already measured.
