Flight Centre’s South Brisbane currency desk, not a betting shop
Travel Money Oz is the Australian trading name of Travel Money Currency Exchange Pty Ltd, ABN 46 121 451 723, registered at 275 Grey Street, South Brisbane, Queensland 4101. Flight Centre Travel Group Ltd bought Nationwide Currency Services in 2006 and, in 2011, folded seven local shops into this brand. Stores answer 1300 426 997. As of 16 September 2026 the site lists 90-plus shops, including Shop 1039, Westfield Bondi Junction, and 474–478 George Street, Sydney. The catalogue is foreign notes plus Currency Pass, a prepaid Mastercard. It is not a casino, sportsbook, or salary bank. International transfers use a separate SendFX product (AFSL 509635).
Banknotes for cash streets, Currency Pass for tap, PIN, and ATMs
Cash is still what most people mean by travel money: notes in USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, THB, IDR, and thinner markets. Travel Money Oz sells notes, not coins, and it does not issue or cash travellers cheques. You cannot pick denominations online; orders come as mixed stock. In store you can ask for smaller bills if the till has them. Leftover notes in fair condition sell back at that day’s buy rate. Coins go to the Small Change, Big Difference UNICEF tin on the donate page. Declare more than A$10,000 when you leave Australia. The live checkout list, not an older FAQ that still says 45 online currencies, is the stock.
Currency Pass is a reloadable prepaid Mastercard arranged by Mastercard Prepaid Management Services Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 47 145 452 044, AFSL 386 837) and issued by EML Payment Solutions Limited (ABN 30 131 436 532, AFSL 404131). The card page on 16 September 2026 lists 17 wallets: USD, EUR, GBP, NZD, CAD, HKD, JPY, SGD, THB, AED, CHF, ZAR, SEK, NOK, DKK, FJD, and AUD. The card is free, with a A$20 minimum load, and works wherever Mastercard is accepted, including ATMs and Apple or Google wallets. Read the PDS and EML Target Market Determination before you buy. Sanctions block Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Russian merchants.
- Issue fee: free; one physical card per account; Apple Pay and Google Pay; posted card 3–7 business days
- Load: from A$20; A$10,000 per online load, A$50,000 in store; A$50,000 max balance; A$75,000 reloads in 12 months
- Reload: 1.1 percent online card; 1 percent BPAY; free in store (your bank may still charge a cash-advance fee)
- ATM: USD 2.50, EUR 2.50, GBP 2.00, JPY 260, THB 80, AUD 3.50 elsewhere; 2.95 percent on Australian AUD cash, plus operator fees
- Cash-out to an Australian bank: A$10; card valid five years
Website rates lock for an hour; the store board is a different price
Live cash and card rates sit on travelmoneyoz.com/rates. As of 16 September 2026 those figures are for online buyers only; in-store rates vary and will not be matched. Online rates lock for one-hour Click and Collect or three-hour delivery. Confirmation, not the first calculator flash, is the contract. Credit-card surcharges are 0.37 percent Mastercard and 0.68 percent Visa; debit is listed with no surcharge. I could not freeze a live AUD-USD print because the widget loads after the page. Rate Move examples (A$2,000 buying about 137,781 yen) are illustrations, not quotes. Board Rate is the public in-store price, described as inclusive of fees and levies.
Open travelmoneyoz.com, compare the cash calculator with Currency Pass wallets, and finish checkout inside the published one-hour Click and Collect or three-hour delivery lock if you want the website rate.
Check live Travel Money Oz cash and card rates →Collect in an hour, or pay A$9.99 inside a 25-kilometre courier ring
Click and Collect is the cleaner online path for most city trips. The order-online page on 16 September 2026 advertises collection within one hour, cash up to A$9,999, and no pickup fee beyond the exchange. You pick a store at checkout and cannot change it later. Bring the confirmation plus government photo ID in the same name; New South Wales and South Australia digital licences are accepted, other states want a physical card. Only the payer can collect. Uncollected orders cancel after 14 days. Same-day collection is advertised, not guaranteed.
Courier delivery has a hard radius. Cash can go to a home, office, or stay address within 25 km of a designated store that holds the notes. Not every shop is a hub. The cash cap is A$5,000; above that you collect. The published fee is A$9.99. Windows run about 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. AEST; the FAQ often wants same-day orders before 11 a.m. You must be there with matching photo ID. Refuse a torn satchel. Missed drops return to a nearby store, and redelivery can cost extra. A Currency Pass still mails in three to seven business days even if cash arrives that afternoon.
- Click and Collect: from one hour; no pickup fee; cash to A$9,999; collect within 14 days
- Cash courier: A$9.99; 25 km of selected stores; cash to A$5,000; ID at the door
- Cash plus card: cash follows pickup or courier rules; named card posts in 3–7 days; combined online cap A$9,999
- Pay with Australian Visa or Mastercard, or Apple Pay; no Amex, prepaid, virtual, or third-party cards
- Online buyers: 18-plus Australian residents; walk-in cash is looser on age if ID checks pass
Beat a quote, cover stock, bank a seven-day move, sell leftovers
Four in-store promises sit on dedicated pages with long footnotes. Price Beat covers foreign notes only, up to A$5,000, from an Australian-registered competitor with same-day stock and collection within 30 km. Bring a dated written quote before you deal. They say they will beat overall price, including fees, by at least A$1; if they cannot, the fallback is A$100 on a Currency Pass or a voucher. Cards are excluded. In Stock Promise covers 35 named currencies. If one is missing, a full deposit of A$250 or more earns A$10 off, with collection from that shop within seven business days. Wholesalers are shut out.
Rate Move Protection is automatic on ID-verified in-store cash, not on website orders or card loads. If that shop’s Board Rate improves within seven calendar days, return to the same counter with the receipt; one claim per transaction, capped at A$5,000. The difference is paid in AUD to your bank within seven business days. Buy Back Bonus, for in-store cash bought from 1 October 2025, adds A$5 on leftovers of A$100–A$499.99 equivalent, or A$10 from A$500, if you return to the same store within 90 days. Exclusions include INR, SEK, NOK, DKK, EGP, and PKR. Cards do not qualify.
Who should buy here, and who should skip the queue
Use Travel Money Oz if you live in Australia, can reach one of the 90-plus shops or a 25-kilometre delivery ring, and want notes before a cash-heavy market: street food, local buses, island ferries, or a first-night taxi. It also fits people who want a prepaid Mastercard they can freeze in an app without tying it to their everyday bank. Flight Centre clients with a VIP rates card or flyer can ask for in-store cash VIP pricing; that perk is not valid online, on transfers, or on cards. Families can combine a named card and a small envelope of USD or THB in one online order under the A$9,999 cap.
Skip this desk if you already hold a no-FX-fee Australian debit card with ATM rebates and you are flying to a tap-friendly city. Skip it if you need more than A$9,999 online, cannot pass GreenID, or need someone else to collect. Skip Currency Pass for Russia and the sanctioned list above. Skip Rate Move Protection if you only buy on the website. Skip leftover-note bonuses if you loaded a card. Rent paid abroad is the SendFX lane, not the till. If you want mid-market rates on a phone app, compare your bank and do the arithmetic including ATM fees.
Treat Travel Money Oz as a notes-and-prepaid shop with a published board, not a promise that you beat every fintech. Lock a website rate only if you can collect or take delivery inside the stated window. Keep cash for the first 48 hours, put the rest on Currency Pass if the destination is in the 17-wallet list, and read the ATM fee table before you hunt a machine. If a competitor quote is cheaper on notes the same day, use Price Beat with paper in hand rather than arguing from memory.

GreenID at checkout, photo ID at the door, leftover notes on the way home
Online cash orders run through my.travelmoneyoz.com/purchase/add-funds. You must be 18 or older, in Australia, buying for travel rather than speculation. Identity is checked with GreenID against an Australian licence, Australian or New Zealand passport, and electoral enrolment. Sanctions screening runs on each cash purchase. Pay with your own Australian Visa or Mastercard; 3-D Secure SMS is normal. Title passes on confirmation; the shop holds notes as bailee until pickup or delivery. In a store you can pay cash or card without that website age floor. Currency Pass under 18 is in-store only. Activate a mailed card on 1800 098 231.
Fees, old FAQ copy, and other limits the homepage skips
The fees-and-limits page is the card source of truth, not a FAQ that still lists ten wallets or 140-plus stores. Online reload at 1.1 percent and BPAY at 1 percent add up on a long trip. Dynamic currency conversion at foreign terminals can wreck a prepaid rate; choose credit and local currency. Hotel and car-hire holds can freeze funds for up to 30 days. Website cash cannot be cancelled after payment except with written consent; selling notes back later uses the buy rate of the day, and the A$9.99 courier fee is not refunded. Hubby’s free 1 GB eSIM, listed from 13 July 2026 while vouchers last, is 48 hours of data after first connection, handled by Hubby To Go B.V.
If notes plus a prepaid Mastercard is the mix you want, place the order on travelmoneyoz.com, pick Click and Collect or the 25 km courier, and take matching photo ID to the counter or the door.
Order cash or a Currency Pass with Travel Money Oz →Frequently asked questions
Can I lock today’s website rate and pick the notes up later in the week?
Only inside the lock the rates page describes: buy online for one-hour Click and Collect or three-hour delivery. That is a same-day logistics promise, not a week-long hold. If you choose a later collection slot, the confirmation rate is still the one you paid, but you are outside the one-hour marketing window, and same-day fulfilment is not guaranteed. Rate Move Protection does not apply to website purchases. For a seven-day board-rate safety net you must buy cash in a participating store, keep the receipt, and return to that same shop.
Is a Currency Pass cheaper than a wad of USD or euro notes?
It depends on the rate gap that day and on how you spend. Notes have no ATM fee but they can be lost, and leftover paper sells back at a worse buy rate unless Buy Back Bonus applies. The card is free to issue, has no monthly or inactivity fee on the published table, and charges issuer ATM fees such as USD 2.50 or JPY 260 plus the machine owner’s cut. Reloading online costs 1.1 percent. Spend a loaded wallet and the card page lists no conversion fee from Travel Money Oz; spend an unloaded currency and the daily spend rate applies. Split cash for markets and the card for hotels, then run both calculators the same afternoon.
What happens if I miss the courier or my licence name does not match?
The satchel will not be left with a neighbour. Online terms say the buyer must take delivery in person with government photo ID that matches the order name. If you miss the window or ID fails, the packet returns to a nearby Travel Money Oz store and you arrange collection or redelivery, which may add fees. Do not accept a torn or opened package. Collection has the same name rule: nobody else can pick up. Failed GreenID can cancel the order or send you into a store. Same-day delivery is an estimate between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. AEST, not a bonded airport run. Build slack before an international flight.
How do leftover notes and leftover card balances come home?
Bring unsold notes to a store. Travel Money Oz buys most of the 60-plus cash currencies at the day’s till buy rate; sell rates are not published on the website. Buy Back Bonus is extra only on eligible in-store cash bought from 1 October 2025, returned to the same shop within 90 days, at A$5 or A$10 by band. Sub-A$100 leftovers skip the bonus but can still be sold. Torn notes may be refused. Currency Pass lasts five years, so you can keep wallets, spend AUD at home, or cash out to an Australian account for A$10. Lost-card help sits on +61 2 8974 0856. Keep the paper receipt from the original cash buy.
Is Travel Money Oz a bank account, a gamble, or just travel cash?
It is a bureau de change with a prepaid travel card, owned inside Flight Centre Travel Group. Currency Pass funds are not a deposit account at a high-street bank; they sit with EML as described in the PDS. You can only spend what you loaded. Nothing here is a wager, a sports bet, or a casino chip. Online terms bar using the cash service for speculation or investment. If you want a transaction account or interest, stay with an authorised deposit-taking institution. If you want notes in hand, or a Mastercard you can freeze from an app, this is the product set. Read the PDS, the online-ordering terms, and the fee table the same day you pay.
