The first thing I look at on a Lily & Roo order is not the pearl. It is the packing slip folded into a box sized for a UK letterbox — the paper that starts the fourteen-day clock the minute you sign, or the minute the courier marks it delivered.
That slip is the whole relationship in miniature. Lily & Roo sells jewellery on lilyandroo.com. It is not the children's clothing label Lily & Ro, which lives on a different site with a different hyphen. People mash the names together, then write to the wrong inbox. The company is LILY & ROO Ltd, Companies House 11384718, at GNR8, 49 Clarendon Road, Watford, WD17 1HP, VAT 310275839. Trustpilot still prints 1a Salcott Road, London SW11 6DQ. There is no public counter you can walk into on a Saturday with a dress bag. Founder Brittany Preston started the line because she could not find wedding jewellery that would sit still against a dress — a footnote, not a headline. Her page says a team of more than twenty women, over forty percent handmade, pearls finished just outside London and packed by the same people. Three kinds of gold, and the card that mixes them
I keep saying gold. I should stop until the product card says solid 9ct. Vermeil, on this site, means sterling with an 18ct skin at least two and a half micrometres thick. Gold-filled means a bonded layer the shop calls five to ten times thicker than a cheap flash, and slower to dull. Solid 9ct is the one you keep — yellow, rose, or white — and if the piece weighs under a gram it can still leave without a UK hallmark. They use recycled metal when they can buy it. That is not the same as swearing every gram was recycled.
The cards still jumble the words. One bracelet can be offered in 14ct gold-filled or solid 9ct. A hoop pair can read 18K gold-plated sterling or solid 9K. No “solid” on the line? Assume plate or fill. Stones here are small, single-cut, Kimberley Process certified — not a graded mall diamond you roll across a pad before you pay. Help pages call the jewellery nickel-free. That is a materials line. It is not a diagnosis, and I will not sell it as one.
Two pieces that show how the studio thinks
I am naming two pieces and then I am done with names. The Gold Single Pearl Necklace is the studio in one object: a removable freshwater pearl, about four to five millimetres, on a sixteen or eighteen inch chain, in 14ct gold-filled or solid 9ct. On 27 September 2026 the live card sat around a hundred and twenty-eight dollars in our session. Treat that as a snapshot. Checkout is the price. The pearl comes off, so the chain can go to dinner without looking like it still belongs to the ceremony.
The other is the Gold Huggie Pearl Drop Earrings. Hinged hoops about eleven millimetres, freshwater drops about nine to thirteen millimetres that unclip, cubic zirconia or a small diamond if you pay for it. They sat around a hundred and forty-three dollars the same day. The detachable drop is the bridal trick — pearls for the aisle, hoops for the taxi home. The hitch is hygiene. Tried-on or worn earrings do not come back, even if the rest of the order is still inside fourteen days. Product pages also warn these pieces are not for a child under three. That is a safety line, not a kidswear range.
Everything else in the shop — bracelets, chokers, gift boxes, initial letters — follows the same rules. Read the finish. Measure the length. Do not turn this page into a catalogue.

The length menu is short and public. Chains run sixteen, eighteen, or twenty inches, and a few styles slide between sixteen and eighteen. Bracelets are seventeen or eighteen centimetres, unless the card calls them one-size and hides the slack in an extender. Halfway between two numbers? Take the longer one. A custom length is an email to info@lilyandroo.com, then a made-to-order piece you cannot send back. Two-piece gift boxes work the same way: both items travel home together, or neither does.
Bridal parties are where this goes sideways. The wedding edit exists so the people in the photographs can share a metal and a pearl size. That only works if every neck and every wrist is measured with a string, not guessed from a clothing size. I will not specify this shop for eight people from a group chat photo. Lay a necklace you already like flat on a table. Write the number down. Then order. Fourteen days. That's the whole window if a length is wrong and the piece is not engraved.
Hatton Garden adds a week you cannot refund
Earrings and engraving are the two places people get stuck, and I mean stuck. Selected pendants and rings take an in-house mark: you choose the style and the font on the card, stay inside the character cap, and stick to English. Other scripts and emoji are refused, except a heart typed as <3. Some bangles and pendants leave the office for laser work in Hatton Garden, which adds about five or six working days before a courier even sees the box. A next-day button after that click does not mean tomorrow; it means the first working day after Hatton Garden sends the piece back. Once a name is cut, the sale is final unless the item arrives faulty, damaged, or not as described. Gift wrap is six pounds. Email gift cards run ten to three hundred pounds and do not expire. Flatbacks sit in the same hygiene bin as worn hoops. Don't get cute with a last-name spelling you have not seen on a passport.
I will not put Lily & Roo on a bridal spreadsheet until every neck and wrist is a measured number, and until engraving is either left off or accepted as money you cannot get back. Gold-filled and vermeil do a quiet job. They are not solid 9ct. A fourteen-day return you pay to post is not a high-street tray.

How the order actually leaves Watford
The studio packs on weekdays, nine to five UK time. Pay after two on Friday and the box waits until Monday’s shift. People still tap next-day on a Friday night and then write in confused. Ordinary UK parcels are cut for a letterbox. Pay extra for next-day or Saturday and a driver may want a signature, which is a different kind of wait if you are not standing by the door.
At the pay step you get the usual cards, PayPal, the two phone wallets, Shop Pay, Maestro, and the two instalment buttons. Clearpay is UK credit with its own late fees; you need to be eighteen or older and live in the UK as a permanent resident, Channel Islands out. Klarna drops leftover instalments if the whole order comes back, and it splits a partial credit across what is still due. NHS staff can hunt a Blue Light code. Promo codes do not pile on top of each other. A digital gift card goes in the gift or discount field. Open a Loyalty Club account and you start with three hundred points; send goods back and those points come off the ledger. None of that stretches the fourteen-day clock or makes an engraved piece returnable. I did not find an unpublished click-and-collect option, because there is no store.
What you pay to move the box
Fees are simpler if you say them in words and ignore the compare-at banners. International orders are mostly delivered duty paid, which sounds kind until you return something and learn the duty slice can stay behind. Read the band that matches your address before you treat free shipping as a personality.

Saturday delivery costs more than gift wrap, which tells you how couriers price a weekend. The part that still irritates me is the outbound-looking-return: you wanted a quiet pearl, you got the wrong length, and you pay the freight to send it back. The relief, if you want one, is that the returns portal names the countries it covers instead of hiding behind a generic contact form.

The self-serve portal works for the UK, Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United States. Anywhere else, you write to info@lilyandroo.com and wait for instructions. You pay to send an unwanted piece back; the portal knocks that postage off the credit. On a duty-paid order the tax already folded into the price can stay with the shop, which is how a refund comes back lighter than the original card hit. UK credits are described as up to five working days. Overseas can run to twenty-one. The money returns the way you paid, Klarna and Clearpay included. If the piece is faulty or not as described, they send a prepaid label.
Defect cover runs one year and is about manufacture — a clasp that fails because it was made wrong, not a chain you caught on a door. Accidents, ordinary wear, a lost box, or a jeweller down the high street who already opened the piece sit outside that line. The help pages mention tarnish. Photograph it and ask. I will not promise they will call colour change a defect. Past the year, a repair is a quote and can eat up to ten working days. If a free gift came with a spend threshold and your return drops you under it, that gift goes back or its recommended retail comes off the credit. One hoop missing? Ask for a single-replacement invoice before you buy a second pair.

Which finish if I only want it to look like gold?
Buy gold-filled or vermeil when you want the colour and you do not want to pay for solid 9ct. Filled is the thicker bonded skin. Vermeil is sterling with an 18ct coat. Both look like gold in a photograph. Neither is a solid bar, and both hate sleep, showers, pools, perfume, and a long hot day. Step up to solid 9ct if the piece will take knocks or is meant to last past one season — and know that anything under a gram may leave without a hallmark. Sterling is the plain white-metal answer and usually the cheapest version of the same shape. Keep one finish for the whole bridal party. Mix filled, plated, and solid in one photo and the metal starts arguing with itself, even when every pearl is real.
Can I kit a bridesmaid group from one order?
You can, as long as nobody’s name goes on the first invoice. Order the same shape, the same metal, and the same length for each person. A boxed pair of pieces only makes sense when every recipient is supposed to open the same two items. Hold engraving until you have seen the spelling on paper. Measure bracelets with string — seventeen centimetres versus eighteen — not with a dress size. Then add Hatton Garden’s five or six working days if anything is made to order, then the courier, then the Friday two o’clock stop. If a length misses and the wedding is soon, support would rather you send it back and place a new order than sit on an exchange. Do not run an earring fitting in the hotel. Hygiene already closed that door.
Who should buy somewhere else?
Walk away if you need a tray in front of you, a same-day pickup, or the kind of free return you get on a jumper. Walk away if a name has to be cut and you still want a way out. Walk away if the policy refuses your country, or if you came looking for a graded diamond, a fake pearl, or a child’s coat. Walk away from plate and fill if you will bathe and sleep in the piece and then write in about wear. Need a heavy hallmarked chain you can weigh before you pay? What can I pay with, and do codes stack?
Cards, PayPal, the phone wallets, Shop Pay, Clearpay, and Klarna. Clearpay and Klarna have their own late-fee and residency rules — read those at the payment step, not after. NHS Blue Light is a look-up, not a promise I can reprint. Codes do not stack. Gift cards sit in the discount box. Loyalty points come back off the ledger if you return the goods. None of that moves the fourteen-day line.
What does care look like, and what does the year cover?
After you take a piece off, wipe it with a soft cloth that does not leave lint. Close the clasp before it goes away, give each item its own space, and store the lot somewhere cool, dry, and dark — dry first, not damp from a night out. The studio says solid gold can still dull because of the alloy mix. Their advertised fix is a jewellery cloth or a short dip in cleaner, which is maintenance, not magic. Manufacture faults are covered for a year on the refund page. After that anniversary, send photos and ask what a repair would cost.
What if my country is not on the portal list?
Email info@lilyandroo.com and ask before you pay. The portal list is published; it is not the same as the ship-to list. A country can accept a parcel and still make you arrange the return by email. If the shipping policy names your country on the no-ship list, the cart should fail — do not assume a workaround. I have not seen an unpublished exception for private addresses in those states, and I will not invent one.
Do worn earrings or a split gift set ever come back?
Worn or tried-on earrings are out for hygiene, full stop. Gift sets return as a complete set. Engraved goods stay yours unless they arrived wrong. Faulty pieces are the exception — photograph them, use the prepaid path, and keep the packing slip. That slip is still the most useful object in the box.
Buy the finish on the card, then measure twice
This shop earns the order when you want a freshwater pearl made in a named office outside London, a length printed on the card, a choice of fill or solid 9ct, and a duty-paid parcel to a lot of overseas addresses. It fails you if you need to hang earrings on your own ears first, undo a name, or post a change of mind without paying freight. Read the finish as printed. Measure sixteen against eighteen before you wrap a gift. Put Hatton Garden on the calendar if a laser is involved. Check price, courier, and tax on the day you pay, not the day you browsed.
