Jimdo GmbH still sits in Hamburg; the 2026 product is a desk, not a page grid
Jimdo is not a new American builder that bolted on bookings last quarter. Jimdo GmbH has shipped websites from Hamburg since 2007, and on 19 May 2026 founder Matthias Henze restated the job: the site is the front door, while the product tries to get a one-person firm found, booked, and paid from one login. The English homepage still says no credit card, free forever, made in Germany. This guide covers what sits behind that offer on 24 September 2026: a German legal entity, a free site that stays free, paid plans that unlock the business tools, and a country rollout U.S. and UK buyers keep missing.
Companion is described as reading your own bookings, inquiries, and site stats rather than answering from a generic script. Jimdo Local is the single profile meant to stay in sync on Google, Maps, and directories. Brand Monitoring watches social mentions. Bookings cover one-to-one slots and group classes, with optional pay-upfront. Smart Forms collect briefs. The shop is a catalog on your site, not a marketplace. Invoices can carry a payment link through WhatsApp, email, or a QR code, and Jimdo claims XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, and GoBD or Swiss GoB and GeBüv archiving. Treat homepage figures such as forty-five percent more transactions or three times more visitors as vendor marketing, not an independent audit.
The signature on the invoice is Jimdo GmbH, not a Delaware shell
Legal notice copy names Jimdo GmbH at Stresemannstraße 375, 22761 Hamburg, Germany. The authorised managing director is Matthias Henze. The register court is Amtsgericht Hamburg, commercial register HRB 101417, VAT ID DE814864138. The published phone and fax, +49 40 82244 997 and 998, exist for German disclosure rules. Jimdo says it does not run a telephone hotline and tells customers not to send cancellations or product questions to info@jimdo.de. Abuse reports go to abuse@jimdo.com. Press uses presse@jimdo.de. The May 2026 post invites product mail at jimdoconnect@jimdo.com. Jimdo also states it will not sit in consumer arbitration. Swiss billing addresses use separate Swiss terms.
The contract is formed online. You create an account, pick a free or paid plan or an addon, click the order button, and send a binding offer. Jimdo says the contract exists only after it emails acceptance. Consumers must be at least sixteen. Paid services are billed in advance for the first term, and listed prices include statutory VAT. Payment is due fourteen days from the invoice unless checkout says otherwise. After thirty days of arrears Jimdo may block the site and ask the registrar to close the domain. Chargebacks can lock the account, and Jimdo may bill that fee back to you.
Geography decides whether bookings and invoices actually appear
The May 2026 FAQ is blunt about coverage. Bookings are listed for EU countries that use the euro and sit on Central European Time. Invoicing is listed for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Payment links are listed for Europe. Jimdo says more markets are coming. A website account still opens in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the other country sites already live. Those buyers should not assume XRechnung or calendar bookings wait in the same dashboard. Existing sites keep pages and domains. Creator sites built before 2017 received Brand Monitoring and Advance AI first, with booking and invoicing promised later in 2026 rather than on day one.
Hosting still sits on the German side of the ledger. Product privacy material says site data lives on Amazon Web Services data centers in Ireland, inside the European Union, with a worldwide content delivery network for speed. Jimdo GmbH says it applies the GDPR and the German Federal Data Protection Act even to users in the United States. Payments are described as PCI-DSS compliant. An Impressum and legal-text add-on is offered and said to stay current. Sample cookie banners and About copy are templates you may edit; the terms say Jimdo is not responsible for their legal fitness, including AI-suggested text. You answer Article 15 requests from your own visitors.
A free site is a real site, with ads and a Jimdo address
The English pricing FAQ still uses Free for the no-cost website and says you can upgrade later from the Upgrade control. Older Website Builder marketing called that tier Play. Either label, you can publish without Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. The free site does not expire. Terms still let Jimdo place its own or third-party ads, and you may not hide them. You pick a Jimdo subdomain. You are not entitled to point an external domain at a free site or iframe it elsewhere. Page and storage caps sit on the order screen. Third-party recaps commonly list five pages and 500 MB, which you should confirm at signup.
Create the no-card site first, then read the live plan cards for your country before you attach a domain or turn on bookings.
Open jimdo.com and start on Free →Dollar figures we can date; euro checkout stays on jimdo.com
The official English pricing page at jimdo.com/pricing/website/ loaded plan cards in the browser on 24 September 2026, so a text fetch printed no euro or dollar amounts. A 3 September 2026 third-party read of that official page in U.S. currency listed Play at 0 dollars, Start at 11 dollars a month, Grow at 17, Unlimited at 49.50, and store Basic, Business, and VIP at 18, 21, and 28. Reviewers noted Unlimited had moved from 45 dollars earlier in the year. German recaps disagree on euro monthly rates, so this guide will not pick one. Open the live cards from your own country before you treat any number as the bill.
Billing cadence is clearer than the sticker. The official FAQ says you may pay month by month or prepay a twelve- or twenty-four-month term and save. Terms add that discounts, unless checkout says otherwise, apply only to the first term. Jimdo may raise a later term if costs or scope change, with at least six weeks’ notice and a six-week objection window. Entrepreneurs outside the EU who enter a valid VAT number receive a reverse-charge net invoice. For the Jimdo AI builder, the Japanese FAQ on the English pricing page names Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Terms also mention Stripe and PayPal; Jimdo is the technical interface, not a party to the customer’s card charge.
- Free, also sold as Play: no card, Jimdo subdomain, vendor ads allowed; recaps commonly list five pages and 500 MB — confirm at signup
- Start, U.S. recap dated 3 September 2026: 11 dollars a month; custom domain for the first term; ad-free
- Grow on that recap: 17 dollars a month; Unlimited: 49.50 dollars, up from 45 earlier in 2026
- Online store Basic, Business, VIP on that recap: 18, 21, and 28 dollars a month
- Euro monthly rates: unpublished here because official cards render per country and German recaps disagree
Connecting a domain is a paid-plan job, not a free-site trick
Jimdo sells domains only with a website or store plan, never as a standalone SKU. Premium plans include one custom domain free for the first contract term; later renewal is a separate invoice line. Published endings include .at, .be, .biz, .ch, .co.uk, .com, .de, .es, .eu, .fr, .info, .it, .me, .net, .nl, .online, .org, .shop, .store, .uk, and .website; some country codes need residency. If you already own a name, a premium plan can transfer it or connect it after you prove ownership. A site may use up to three names: two Jimdo domains plus one external. Email is forwarding or an alias, or you attach Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
Create the account on jimdo.com with no card if you stay on Free. Describe the trade, then edit the AI draft of structure, copy, images, and calls to action. Jimdo says that first draft can appear in under five minutes; treat that as a first publish, not a finished brand. Turn on bookings, forms, the shop, and invoices only if your country list includes them and your paid plan unlocks them. Keep your own backups: Jimdo runs server snapshots, but the terms say an individual site cannot be restored from them. Outage status is jimdo-status.com. Entrepreneurs are promised 98 percent yearly availability, excluding up to four hours of maintenance a week.
Buy this if you want a German-hosted desk; skip it if you need a custom stack
The honest fit is a solopreneur who wants one German company to host the site, keep an EU server story, and, if they work in the euro-CET bookings zone or the German-Austrian-Swiss invoice zone, take appointments and send a payment link without stitching four other apps. Coaches, tutors, studios, repair trades, and small product makers without warehouse logic are the people the 2026 post names. You should already be willing to edit AI copy, check an Impressum, and live inside one generally available product. If that is a fair trade for not hiring a developer, open the account.
Skip Jimdo if you need a custom-coded application, a developer CMS you can fork, or merchandising at Shopify depth: variants at scale, multi-warehouse inventory, wholesale rules, and a plugin bazaar. Recaps that priced the U.S. plans also flagged a thin app ecosystem and a blog that is not WordPress. Skip it if you need a named telephone support desk; the legal number is not one. Skip it if you are a U.S. buyer whose only reason to switch is online invoicing, still listed for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Skip it if you need HIPAA language, which reviewers mark unpublished. Businesses do not get the fourteen-day consumer withdrawal.
- Fit: a solopreneur in the euro-CET bookings zone or the German-Austrian-Swiss invoice zone who wants one Hamburg GmbH for site, calendar, and payment links
- Fit: someone who will edit AI copy, check legal texts, and keep their own backups
- Skip: a custom-coded app, a forked CMS, or Shopify-depth merchandising
- Skip: a U.S. or UK buyer whose only reason to switch is GoBD invoicing
- Skip: anyone who needs a phone hotline, HIPAA wording, or a consumer withdrawal their country does not grant
Jimdo is a Hamburg-hosted desk for people who will live inside one standard product. It is a poor home for a custom app, and it is an incomplete desk if your country is still waiting on invoices.

How cancellation works, including the fourteen-day consumer window
If you are a consumer and your country gives a statutory cooling-off, Jimdo’s pricing FAQ grants a fourteen-day right of withdrawal. That right does not apply if you are a business. After the window, paid terms auto-renew unless you cancel in time. Creator help still says four weeks before renewal; Website Builder help and the terms say one month. Cancel under Plan and Billing, with the on-site control, or by email from the address on the account. Early exits do not produce a partial refund unless the terms cover that case. When the paid term ends, the site stays on Free until you delete it. Jimdo may end the contract with twelve weeks’ notice and must refund unused prepaid time pro rata.
Read the current Free versus paid cards, domain transfer options, and country feature list on jimdo.com before you prepay a twelve- or twenty-four-month term.

Does Jimdo publish one price that works in every country?
No. Plan names repeat, but the sticker does not. The English pricing FAQ confirms monthly billing or a prepaid twelve- or twenty-four-month term, an upgrade from Free, and a consumer withdrawal where statute allows. It does not print a worldwide euro table. A 3 September 2026 third-party read of the official U.S. cards listed Play at zero, Start at 11 dollars, Grow at 17, Unlimited at 49.50, and store tiers at 18, 21, and 28 dollars. German recaps disagree on euro monthly rates, so those amounts stay unpublished here. Check the live cards from the country you will bill.
Can a U.S. freelancer use bookings and invoices the way a Hamburg coach can?
Not on the list Jimdo published in May 2026. Bookings are described for EU euro countries on Central European Time. Invoicing is described for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, including XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, and GoBD-style archiving. Payment links are described for Europe. A U.S., UK, or Australian buyer can still open the website builder, use Free, connect a domain on a paid plan, and wait for the rollout. They should not buy a twenty-four-month term solely for invoices that are not listed in their country. Existing sites keep their pages. Ask inside the account whether bookings have reached your billing country before you prepay for them.
What do I actually do to cancel, and do I get money back?
Cancel from Plan and Billing, use the on-site cancellation control, or write from the email address on the account. Do not use the legal disclosure phone or info@jimdo.de. Give about one month of notice, four weeks in older Creator help, before the renewal date on your invoice. Jimdo also emails a reminder no later than six weeks ahead. Consumers with a statutory cooling-off get fourteen days; businesses do not. Mid-term exits do not produce a partial refund unless the terms cover that case. When the paid term ends, the site falls back to Free until you delete it. Accounting records can remain for ten years under German storage rules even after a deletion request to privacy@jimdo.com.
Is the free plan a real website or only a demo?
It is a real published site, and it is a limited one. No card is required, and Jimdo says the free tier does not expire. You get a Jimdo subdomain, AI help for a first draft, and the right to upgrade later. You also get ads Jimdo may place, no right to point an external domain at the free site, and the page and storage caps shown at signup. Third-party recaps still describe five pages and 500 MB on Play. The May 2026 FAQ puts deeper Companion, bookings with payments, invoices, and the shop on paid plans. Use Free to test the editor; upgrade when a custom domain or a gated tool is the next job.
Who hosts the data, and who answers a visitor privacy request?
Jimdo GmbH is the company on the contract. Site data is described as living on Amazon Web Services data centers in Ireland, inside the European Union, with a worldwide content delivery network in front. Jimdo says it applies the GDPR and the German Federal Data Protection Act even to users in the United States. That does not make Jimdo your data-protection officer. If a visitor asks for a copy of their data under Article 15, you are the operator who must answer within thirty days. Jimdo’s legal-center note says it will not process that request for you. Legal-text add-ons help with the German operator page, but sample and AI-suggested texts remain your responsibility. For your own account data, write privacy@jimdo.com.
